The buzz is likely caused by either a grounding issue or the actual mic/mic cable has a problem. Otherwise I think what has been said here previously is pretty accurate. Blue Microphones makes some really nice stuff. If you don't want to go that way, get a good USB mic.

I work for a company that does a lot of sound installs in the corporate and higher education markets and we never recommend using the built-in mic inputs. They will almost always give you better sound quality and give you some nice adjustment features at the same time. There are lots of them out there so pick one in your price range and give it a shot. If you really want good audio get yourself a USB audio interface. I've tried to set the card writing an nf file as preferred but it doesn't worked. One thing i've noticed is that i can increase or decrease the noise from alsamixer increasing or decreasing the mic level. From alsamixer i can see that the mic is detected as usb pnp audio device and it's not muted. And i really don't know why it stopped working: i use it for example on ts3, and nobody was able to hear me, so i used arecord and aplay to check for some problem and now every time i record something, playing it back i can hear only some electrical noise, like a sizzle. A few days after i've decided to connect it directly on a mobo usb port, to have both of the front ports available for example to usb drives and so on. I've connected it to one of the 2 usb port on the front of my case, and using arecord and aplay i've checked that it worked properly. I'm having this problem with my mic: the first time i've used it, it worked fine.
